Hajj Ritual Guide — Step by Step

Our Islamic scholar guides accompany every group and lead pilgrims through each ritual with care and spiritual devotion. Here is an overview of the 5 days of Hajj.

8

8 Dhul Hijjah — Day of Tarwiyah (Yawm at-Tarwiyah)

Pilgrims enter the state of Ihram, make the intention for Hajj (Niyyah), and proceed to Mina. They spend the day and night at Mina performing prayers, remembering Allah, and preparing spiritually for Arafat.

📍 Location: Mina (Tent City)
9

9 Dhul Hijjah — Day of Arafat (Yawm Arafah) — The Heart of Hajj

The most important day of Hajj. Pilgrims travel to the plain of Arafat and stand (Wuquf) from Dhuhr until sunset in prayer and supplication. After sunset, they proceed to Muzdalifah for Maghrib and Isha prayers and collect pebbles for Rami.

🌟 This is the pinnacle of Hajj — no Hajj without Arafat
10

10 Dhul Hijjah — Eid al-Adha (Yawm an-Nahr)

After Fajr at Muzdalifah, pilgrims return to Mina and perform: (1) Rami — stoning of the large Jamarat pillar (7 pebbles), (2) Hady — animal sacrifice, (3) Halq/Taqsir — shaving or cutting hair, and (4) return to Makkah for Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa'i.

🎉 Eid al-Adha — the Festival of Sacrifice
11

11 Dhul Hijjah — First Day of Tashreeq

Pilgrims spend the day in Mina and perform Rami of all three Jamarat pillars (small, medium, and large) — 7 pebbles each — after Zawwal (midday). The rest of the day is spent in prayer, Dhikr, and reflection.

📍 Location: Mina — must stay overnight
12

12 Dhul Hijjah — Second Day of Tashreeq

Rami of all three Jamarat is performed again after Zawwal. Pilgrims who wish to depart Mina (Nafr Awwal — early departure) may leave before sunset. Others remain for the third day of Tashreeq.

13

13 Dhul Hijjah — Third Day of Tashreeq (optional)

Final Rami of all three Jamarat is performed after Zawwal for those who remained. Pilgrims then return to Makkah for final Tawaf al-Wada (Farewell Tawaf) before departing for home.

🕋 Final Tawaf — the last ritual of Hajj

ManGo Travels organises guided Ziyarat (visit) tours to all major Islamic holy sites during your stay in Saudi Arabia.

🌅

The Prophet's Mosque — the second holiest site in Islam. Contains the blessed Rawdah and the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

⚔️

ManGo Travels offers year-round Umrah packages tailored for individuals, couples, families, and groups. 🌙

Women 45 and Above: Women aged 45 and above may apply for Umrah without a mahram when travelling in an official group, provided they submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) signed by their husband or male guardian. ManGo Travels provides the NOC template. This is a new Saudi policy to facilitate women's travel for Umrah.

Umrah Ritual Guide

Umrah consists of 4 essential rituals. Our scholar guides walk every pilgrim through each step with care and detailed explanation in Bangla and Arabic.

1

Ihram — The State of Consecration

Before reaching Makkah, pilgrims enter the state of Ihram at the designated Miqat point. Men wear two white seamless cloths. Women wear modest loose clothing covering everything except the face and hands. The Niyyah (intention) for Umrah is made and the Talbiyah is recited: "Labbayk Allahumma Umrah."

🤍 Men: white Ihram cloth | Women: modest clothing
2

Tawaf — Circumambulation of the Kaaba

Upon entering Masjid al-Haram, pilgrims perform Tawaf — walking around the Kaaba 7 times in an anti-clockwise direction, starting and ending at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad). Each circuit begins with Istilam (acknowledging or touching the Black Stone). After Tawaf, two Rak'ahs of Salah are prayed near Maqam Ibrahim.

🔄 7 circuits, anti-clockwise — start at Black Stone
3

Sa'i — Walking Between Safa and Marwa

After Tawaf, pilgrims perform Sa'i — walking 7 times between the hills of Safa and Marwa (now enclosed within the mosque). Starting from Safa, pilgrims walk to Marwa (1st circuit), return to Safa (2nd), and complete 7 circuits ending at Marwa. This commemorates Hajar's search for water for her son Ismail (AS).

🏃 7 lengths: Safa→Marwa (1) — end at Marwa (7)
4

Halq or Taqsir — Cutting of the Hair

The final ritual of Umrah is the cutting or shaving of the hair, which marks the exit from the state of Ihram. Men may shave their head completely (Halq — the more rewarded option) or trim significantly (Taqsir). Women cut a small amount (fingertip length) from the tips of their hair. With this, Umrah is complete.

✂️ Men: shave (Halq) or trim | Women: fingertip trim only

After Umrah: Once all 4 rituals are complete, the pilgrim has successfully performed Umrah. They may then spend the remaining days in Makkah praying, performing additional Tawaf, visiting Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, going on Ziyarat tours, and engaging in Dhikr and Quran recitation.

Best Times to Perform Umrah

Umrah can be performed at any time of year. Each season has its own advantages — here is our guide to help you choose the right time for your journey.

🌙

Ramadan (Most Rewarded)

Performing Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to the reward of Hajj according to Hadith. The spiritual atmosphere is unparalleled, especially in the last 10 days (Laylat al-Qadr). Note: it is the most crowded and most expensive season.

❄️

Winter Season (Oct–Feb)

The most comfortable time to perform Umrah — temperatures in Makkah range from 15–25°C. Less crowded than Ramadan and prices are moderate. Ideal for elderly pilgrims and families with children.

🌸

Spring Season (Mar–May)

Pleasant weather with moderate crowd levels and good availability. Prices are competitive and flights are more accessible. A good balance between comfort and spiritual atmosphere.

☀️

Summer Season (Jun–Sep)

The most affordable season with the lowest prices for flights and hotels. However, Makkah is extremely hot (38–45°C) in summer. Not recommended for elderly or health-vulnerable pilgrims.

🕋

Dhul Hijjah (Avoid for Umrah)

Umrah cannot be performed during the actual Hajj days (8–13 Dhul Hijjah) by pilgrims who are not performing Hajj that year. This period is reserved for Hajj pilgrims only.

👶

School Holidays (Best for Families)

Plan your Umrah around Bangladeshi school holidays for a family trip. Our family packages include child-friendly arrangements, suitable rooms, and a comfortable pace for all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions — Umrah

Answers to the most common questions about Umrah visas, rituals, and travel from Bangladesh.

How long is the Umrah visa valid?+
The Saudi Umrah Visa is typically valid for 30 days from the date of first entry into Saudi Arabia. During this period, you can travel between Makkah, Madinah, and other cities in Saudi Arabia. It is a single-entry visa. Extensions are generally not granted — you must return to Bangladesh before the 30-day period expires.
Can women perform Umrah without a mahram?+
Yes — Saudi Arabia updated its Umrah policy. Women aged 45 and above may now travel for Umrah without a mahram provided they travel in an organised group and submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their male guardian. Women under 45 still require a mahram (husband, father, brother, or son). ManGo Travels can advise on the specific requirements for your situation.
How many times can I perform Umrah in a lifetime?+
Umrah can be performed as many times as you wish throughout your lifetime. There is no limit on the number of times a Muslim can perform Umrah. Each Umrah is a separate act of worship with its own reward. Many Muslims perform Umrah multiple times, especially in Ramadan.
Can children perform Umrah?+
Yes, there is no minimum age for Umrah. Children can perform Umrah and receive spiritual reward, though it is not obligatory for them. Children under 18 must travel with at least one parent or legal guardian. ManGo Travels' family packages are designed to accommodate children of all ages comfortably.
How far in advance should I book my Umrah?+
For regular season Umrah, we recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance to ensure good hotel availability near the Haram and affordable flight prices. For Ramadan Umrah (especially the last 10 days), book at least 3–4 months in advance as packages sell out very quickly. Contact ManGo Travels early for the best selection.
What vaccinations are required for Umrah?+
Saudi Arabia requires all Umrah pilgrims to have a valid Meningococcal ACWY vaccine certificate from a recognised health centre. A valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate is also required as per current Saudi regulations. Seasonal flu vaccination is strongly recommended but not mandatory. ManGo Travels will inform you of the latest vaccination requirements at the time of booking.
What is the difference between Umrah and Hajj?+
Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is obligatory for every able Muslim at least once in their lifetime. It is performed on specific dates in Dhul Hijjah and involves additional rituals (Arafat, Mina, Muzdalifah, Rami) not performed in Umrah. Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage that can be performed year-round and consists of 4 rituals (Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'i, Halq/Taqsir). While Umrah holds great reward, it does not replace or fulfil the obligation of Hajj.
What should I bring for Umrah?+
Essential items include: 2–3 sets of Ihram (men), modest loose-fitting clothing (women), comfortable slip-on sandals (easy to remove at mosque), a small prayer mat, pocket-sized Quran, dua books in Bangla/Arabic, Zamzam water bottle, sun protection (cap, sunscreen), any personal medications, and your travel documents. ManGo Travels provides a comprehensive Umrah kit with all basic necessities in our packages.
